The season is a few short days away and we have ducks in Texas! Lots of green wing teal are showing up, as well as some gadwall, widgeon, and pintail. Looks good for opening weekend with a front coming in this evening. Need some rain pretty bad to hold them here, but thy are starting to push down in good numbers.
Weekly Report
Opening week of dove season was very good in Ellis and Navarro Counties. Hunting has slowed down dramatically since the rain and cooler temps this past weekend. We are seeing a few teal in the area, some places holding a few hundred birds but a good push of birds with the incoming front will be crucial for opening weekend success. Lots of rain this spring and summer in certain areas has provided some great habitat for blue wings once they arrive.
Weekly Report August 29, 2014
Dove are looking good in Ellis and Navarro County the week leading up to dove season. Most birds are in commercial sunflower fields or the milo fields that have been cut and bailed, still a lot of fields yet to be cut. There are also some birds still hanging around in the wheat. We got some rain on Friday, and temperatures will be cooler for the next few days including the opener so hunting should be good.
